Working for Washington Post.Newsweek Interactive

I posted on the Django users lists today about our needing some Python/Django coders at work. Then I realized, I should mention the new job here. I'm really excited to be working for Washington Post.Newsweek Interactive now. And we've got some really cool sites and web apps we'll be working on in the next few months.

I'm working as Lead Programmer for Product Development, which is a department that was created for Rob Curley, when WPNI hired him on as VP of Product Development. I just can't say enough to describe my respect and admiration for Rob. Not only does he get the Web, but he gets the Web for newspapers unlike anyone I've ever met. He has an uncanny sense for what works online, and a terrific abandon of the status quo that just makes working for him fun. Rob offers a lot of respect towards those of use working with him, and really, I think of him as a friend as much as a boss.

I hope I'm not being too dramatic with my comments here, but I'm proud for Rob and proud that I get to continue working with him at WPNI.

As for the work itself, we'll be "dedicated to the rapid development and deployment of new tools for journalists and viewers" to borrow from the press release linked above. Most everything we do will be written in Python using the Django web framework. Of course, we'll do all the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Flash goodness on top of the server- side stuff. But the server-side is where I spent most of my time these days, so I mention it first. :-)
